Adult DVD and Couples
We all love to get out for a little dogging and swinging action and its impossible to beat the thrill of meeting a stranger for sex but what about at other times when you can't get into your car and drive to a quiet spot for some discreet fun? There are swingers clubs and adult parties but a lot of singles and increasingly, couples, like to use adult films to spice up their sex lives and add a little bit of extra excitement to a sexy evening in. It is certainly the case that the use of porn is growing at an extraordinary rate in nearly all developed countries but in none more that Australia where the appetite for adult films is increasing at a surprising rate and particularly amongst couples.
Recent adult industry reports have concluded that a staggering 42% of Australian couples use some form of pornography as a regular part of their sex life. There are no specific figures available for most other countries but one would imagine this level of usage would be significantly lower elsewhere even though everybody involved in the business agrees that it is certainly growing year on year. One reason for this new development is that the adult film industry has started to realise that there is a market for "couple friendly" porn, with more attention paid to high production values and avoiding anything that could be considered degrading or abusive to women as is unfortunately sometimes present in more mainstream porn aimed at men. Women tend to be rather more selective then men when it comes to their taste in adult entertainment and, unsurprisingly, an attractive male star is as important to them as their female counterparts are to men.
This is something that traditional, male oriented, adult material has historically not held as being of much importance and has even avoided it deliberately. One of the primary reasons for this is to propagate the idea that the women in the films are somehow attainable for ordinary men by portraying them with a very ordinary and in some cases downright unattractive male co-stars. In the (male) viewer's mind this then makes the films more sexually exciting because it would be easy to see oneself in the male star's role.
Another factor that women rate as being highly significant is the fact that adult material can now be easily obtained through various on line merchants. This has clearly and indisputably helped pornography as a whole and many men would baulk at the thought of visiting a physical XXX shop but for women this whole side is many times less appealing. There are numerous adult DVD stockists and the fact that one can easily, anonymously and of particular importance for women, safely, shop for such material has lead to it being something that is very much a possibility rather than a taboo that is simply a no go area. Although even the Internet will never totally legitimise pornography in a way that it will make it mainstream, it has helped to deliver a somewhat more accessible product that women can think about without resorting to visiting such male dominated arenas as XXX cinemas or shops.
With this level of acceptance and increased interest by women, the quantity, variety and quality of material availably grows, thus fuelling more demand in an ever upward spiral which accounts for the exponential growth of couple friendly adult films in recent years. Most observers believe this is a very positive influence on the adult industry as a whole, particularly as it is helping to bring more women behind the camera instead of in front of it. A significant number of the studios producing films for women and couples are both owned and operated by women or employ women directors, some of whom have previously worked as models but equally many who have not. The style and attention to detail in this genre of films is something that is having an uplifting effect on many other areas of the industry and most believe it has positively contributed to the quality of pornography being released for the traditional male market.
Whatever the benefits or otherwise, it is clear that a significant and growing number of women and couples embrace adult DVDs and films as a positive additional input to their sex lives and this can only be a good thing - long may it continue.
